BIG CHOCOLATE

California-native, Big Chocolate has been on top of the game as of late, with the #1 song on Beatport on the Hip Hop/Trap charts for over 4 weeks and big time slots with DJ’s like Zeds Dead, Adventure Club and Big Gigantic. He is as incessantly prolific as he is multi-faceted, cranking out destructive electro beats, hyper aware video blogs and hotly sought-after remixes in equal measure.

KILL PARIS

Kill Paris is another California boy who’s also been busy with shows all over the U.S. alongside Zedd, Alvin Risk, Alex Metric and more! He brings new meaning to a live DJ and Producer. Utilizing the capabilities of Ableton Live and his own custom controllers, Kill Paris plays and loops Bass, Guitar, Synth, and drum beats all while mixing in and out of songs. Fusing together Electro-House, Dubstep, and Guitar/bass Funk, Kill Paris is definitely one to keep your ear on.

JELO

Jelo is a hard-hitting Electro/Tech House Producer from Canada who has led the electronic music scene in Toronto for the last decade. He has remixed and co-produced with some of the world’s best, like Kevin Drew from Broken Social Scene, Hatiras, and Deadmau5, and as many Bay Area burners know, Jelo absolutely crushed it at Burning Man this last summer. To keep it short and sweet–you can’t not dance when you hear Jelo’s music.

Dust-Off with Hybrid Soundsystem 2012

Hybrid Biography

Since first bursting onto the scene with the now classic album Wide Angle in 1999, the Swansea, Wales-based Hybrid have been known as one of the most forward thinking and technically skilled acts in electronic dance music.

For an act as enduring and versatile as Hybrid, with a career that spans more than 13 years and four albums, it should come as little surprise to find that live performance comes in many shapes and sizes. While the full Hybrid Live show has rocked festival stages and concert halls worldwide, with a line-up ranging from the band’s core three members to a full philharmonic orchestra, the Hybrid Soundsystem takes things right back to their gritty roots – one man, at the beating heart of the dancefloor.

But this is not just any DJ set. Already an accomplished DJ in his own right, with the Hybrid Soundsystem Chris Healings takes things one step beyond the turntables, bringing you a whole new way to experience the group’s trademark musical fusion. Whether it’s through brand new productions and remixes, re-edits of classic numbers or tracks taken from their record label Kill City, the Soundsystem show brings you the clubbier side of Hybrid in exactly the way it was always intended, but never before realised.

With a remix résumé featuring the likes of UNKLE, Doves, Guy J, Elite Force, Losers and Radiohead, HSS productions combine energetic drums, sweeping orchestral manoeuvres and snarling, visceral bass to create a sound that’s at once epic and uplifting, yet with a dark, brooding undercurrent. Taking influences from across the dance music spectrum and twisting them into something resolutely fresh and unclassifiable, this is where the boundaries come down and the rulebook lies in tattered remains. Think you know Hybrid? Think again. This is the Hybrid Soundsystem.

Opulent Temple Burning Man 2012

Burning Man 2012

Fertility 2.0

Black Rock City, NV

10:00 & Esplanade

This coming burn is our 10th annual camp at Burning Man, marking a decade of efforts to create a space for sacred dance to world class music. What a ride! We give the gift to our community and to ourselves, and we work hard to bring forth a play space to touch the heart and see things clearly. The goal is not to party, though we all do it well. The goal is to connect and awaken, and to bring the fruits of that to our relationships to each other and the world all year round. It’s easy to be giddy and open hearted under the stars and the fire in the desert, surrounded by friends, freaks and some of the greatest dance music in the world. Less easy back in our daily lives, toiling in an unconscious world. And we know, especially given the luxuries, means and privilege we have, that we have a responsibility and a duty to bring the light. We like ours with a dash of bass, fire and groove.

Thank you all for your on going support of us and our events so that we can be here to do what we do. As we know you know, it’s a community effort, solely supported by you and us. Opulent Temple is stronger than ever and looking forward to new directions in the future. See you on the dance floor!

The Crystal Method Biography

L.A.’s Crystal Method have been referred to as America’s answer to the Chemical Brothers. A dance-based electronic duo with a definite rock band feel, the comparison would seem appropriate, although it tends to erase what makes the group distinct: a solid base in American hip-hop, rock, soul, and pop. Formed in 1993 by Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland, Crystal Method is the most recent stop in a string of projects that led them from their native Las Vegas (and some forgettable four-track stabs at vocal house music), to the early-’90s L.A. rave scene. Drawn in by its youthful idealism, Jordan and Kirkland became absorbed by L.A.’s underground club culture and began knocking out tracks inspired by their experiences.

On the strength of one of their demos, Crystal Method signed to Steve Melrose and Justin King’s City of Angels imprint in 1994, and their debut single, “Keep Hope Alive,” appeared soon after. The title was in reference to L.A.’s waning rave scene (burdened by constant police pressure and a string of random violent incidents) and became something of an anthem due to the endless barrage of remixes and alternate versions that appeared. The pair’s demand to be taken seriously as a band (as opposed to the enforced anonymity of most techno acts, and something of a new concept for American dance producers) extended to incessant live performances, and Crystal Method’s increasing popularity both in the clubs and among radio jocks led to a deal with Geffen affiliate Outpost Recordings in 1996.

The group’s debut LP, Vegas — an unabashed party record bathed in acid, funk, rock, and big beat hip-hop — appeared in mid-1997 and sold very well. The follow-up Tweekend was released four years later, and the duo inaugurated a series of mix albums (Community Service) in 2002. Third album Legion of Boom followed in 2004 with their soundtrack to the film London landing a year later. In 2006 they teamed with iTunes for an exclusive release titled Drive. The mix was made to accompany any aspiring athlete’s workout session and was re-released on CD in 2008 with four bonus tracks. In 2009 they released Divided by Night, the first album to be recorded at the duo’s state-of-the-art recording studio Crystalwerks. ~ Sean Cooper, All Music Guide
